November is a month for all of us to give thanks. Quite often we will see friends making a list of what they are thankful for. I have read daily thankful posts, all of which are heartfelt. Many of the lists seem to be similar- family, friends, children, jobs, health and etc. A few years back, I decided to throw a twist on the “Thankful Post”. What if I could do something thoughtful each and every day of November, in an attempt to make others thankful for me? Not in a self-centered sort of way, but rather a truly kind gesture sort of thing. I am just going to say, it’s a tough goal to accomplish. I mean I could have made it easy, by just repeating the same gesture each and every day, but I kind of wanted to mix it up a bit. It became a quest. A rack my brain for something new kind of thing. Thinking back, here are some of the “Thankful Things” I did.
I remember sending left-over Halloween candy to soldiers; I tipped my grocery carryout guy (with protest). I paid it forward in the fast food drive through. I washed and sent coats to a South Dakota coat drive. I tipped my fast food window gal. I gave our garbage guy a cupcake- which I think did brighten his day, as he seemed a bit cranky at first. I wrote nice things on friend’s Facebook walls. Flowers were sent to an old friend after her surgery. There were shared hugs and smiles, cupcakes given in cute boxes, extra special birthday celebrations, someone’s favorite ice cream flavor, a few cash donations, etc.
I found something kind to do each day, though I will admit one of the days I sort of just made myself happy. I took two baths, ate pancakes, watched football, and took a nap.
This month Half Baked Sioux Falls is collecting non- perishable food items to help fill the Sioux Falls Food Pantry. You will receive $.50 off of your purchase, and you will be entered into a drawing to win a free dozen cupcakes each week for a year! WOW! That’s 52 weeks of heaven, and the chance to help those who need some extra love, a discount for you, and smiles all around!
No matter if you embark on a 30 day “Give Thanks” journey, by sharing what you are thankful for, or giving others a reason to be thankful for you, I hope we all find a few ways to honor this month of November as a thankful month. All of us here at Half Baked would certainly like to say thank you! Thank you for being memorable, amazing customers! Thank you for giving us your business, your input, your compliments, your love, and for loving cupcakes! We appreciate each and every one of you, and you most certainly ROCK!
